ELECTRONIC MUSICIAN TO FEATURE ARTICLE
ON THEREMIN TECHNIQUE

Olivia Mattis and Lydia Kavina have written an article on theremin playing technique and tips scheduled for the July 1999 issue of Electronic Musician magazine.  According to Olivia, "In addition to playing tips from Lydia, it includes advice from the late Clara Rockmore and Lucie Bigelow Rosen, as well as a list of theremin resources."  Watch for it this summer at your local bookstore/magazine dealer.

THEREMIN VIRTUOSO CLARA ROCKMORE DEAD

The theremin community was stunned and saddened Sunday, May 10, 1998, to hear news of the death in New York City of the great Clara Rockmore, theremin virtuoso. The prized and star pupil of Prof. Leon Theremin himself, Ms. Rockmore was the greatest thereminist to have ever lived. She astounded audiences with her remarkable skill, impeccable pitch and speed, whether it was in recitals with her late sister, the well-known pianist and pedagogue Nadia Reisenberg, or in solo concert appearances with orchestras under the baton of Leopold Stokowski and others. Fortunately, many of her recordings and historic film/video footage survive her. She was laid to rest on May 13, 1998.
